Death Is The Mental State Of The Boy - 913 Words

In many forms of literature, death can be represented physically or mentally in characters. In all stories involving death, death becomes inevitable. In â€Å"Out, Out-† by Robert Frost, death is the physical state of the boy and is an accident full of fright, while in â€Å"Disabled† by Wilfred Owen, death is the mental state of the narrator and the monotony of his life became after losing his legs; however, both poems illustrate the idea that life continues after one’s death. In a physical sense, death can be quick and sudden. In â€Å"Out, Out-† Frost depicts a frightful and the accidental physical death of the boy. More often than not, death comes as a shock to many. According to Gloriana Locklear’s analysis of the poem’s theme of death, Frost holds â€Å"focus on the horror of life that death can end at any moment for no good reason† (167). This view is seen as the boy’s life is taken from him. After the boy’s hand is cut off the readers can see the shock as the young boy cries out, â€Å"Don’t let him cut my hand off- / The doctor, when he comes. Don’t let him sister!† (Frost 25-26). The mere fright made the young boy unable to realize that his hand is already gone. Death becomes a sudden shock to our character due to the abrupt reality that he faces. Locklear notes, â€Å"The saw suggests nature at its most brutal and percipience at its most minimal, reactive rather than deliberately causative, but still dangerous† (167). In other words, empathy refers to the ability to sense and feel what our friends are feeling as well as what they need. For leaders it means that one is able to realize and appreciate employee feelings and reservations, appreciate them even if they are divergent with their observations, which leads to long term success of any organization. Good and effective leaders are characterized by being good listeners, nonjudgmental and emotionally intelligent. Contextually, for instance in the workplace, it can be exhibited by expressing respect for fellow workers or subordinates. It involves making them know that you care a lot about them, which is in fact against the rules and regulations that define the terms of engagement (Psycholawgy, 2016). Leaders who apply the empathetic style of leading their staff and subordinates, ensure that every individual worker feels like part of the team thus significantly increasing the level of productivity and the overall organizational prosperity as a result of enhanced loyalty and morale. Actually empathy is an instrumental element for an admired and respected executive (David, 2015). For instance, nurses have curved a reputation of being the most respected professionals out of their empathetic nature while attending to patients. They always ensure that their clients feel safe and secure. Empathetic leaders like the staff they are leading, enjoy helping whenever necessary and also value them as individuals. When the executives comprehend the staff they are leading, they engender a closer link. This link leads to increased trust which subsequently leads to positive engagement between them (David, 2015). Apparently, for empathy to exist there must be three elements in place namely listening, understanding and openness. Empathetic individuals tend to listen in an attentive manner to each otherwhile putting emphasis and focus on whoever is in from putting their complete focus on the person talking to them to avoid getting distraction (Business Balls, 2013). They are likely to spend more time listening than talk since they intend to grasp and understand the tribulatio ns of others as it will enable them feel recognized and appreciated. Managers and executives who are empathetic know that the way they relate with their staff is determinant on the level of success the business is likely to achieve. As a result they are ever open and understanding the kind of reactions and emotions that their employees exhibit. They are also able to analyze employee reservation subjectively to arrive at a common ground. Equally at the workplace, members who understand each others feeling are more likely to foster the spirit of team work while handling better the challenges they face. It makes them feel safe from their undoing since they are less likely to be faulted for them. It makes the group or team leaders to figure out the chief source of any problem that affects performance quality. It also provides bosses with the means of helping their struggling staff to catch up with the rest and move to the next level of excellence together with their peers. Empathy forms the basis for handling a plethora of workplace problems like failures and minimal performance. Therefore, leaders are expected to handle their workers empathetically since it will facilitate faster growth in their organizations. Despite this positive implication of adopting empathy to organizational management, it is a pity that most corporates rarely do utilize it. This is simply because demonstrating it requires concerted efforts and time to fully exhibit it. Also, it is hard to understand employee behavior on a regular basis based on their behavior in give situations. It is extremely challenging for managers to put the interest of the workers feeling ahead of organization objectives due to the nature of competition in all industries. This is due to the fact that nowadays most organizations are more interested in making the ends meet regardless of the means and employee feelings (Emoticon, 2014). However despite this situation good and productive leaders are expected to possess the ability to go around their business by actively working contrary to the excuses of excluding empathy from organization management. By so, doing they will definitely increases chances of their companies upstaging their competitors. This will help them to set the right tone as well as approach for their employees while striving to achieve organizational goals. As coined by Theodore Roosevelt, employees will only care for organizational welfare if the organizational management expresses care for their feelings. Failure to do this workers will feel alienated, despised and neglected by their seniors in the administrative hierarchy which will ultimately lead to eventual organizational downfall (Emoticon, 2014). On the face of it, empathy is instrumental to sound leadership and is determinant on the level of trust that is exhibited by all stakeholders in the organizations structure. If employees do not trust their supervisors, then these supervisors fail to qualify to be named leaders but fall under the category of managers. Empathy forms the foundation of trust in organizational management. When managers show concern for their employees feelings and subsequently appreciate them even when they dont agree with them, for sure boost the degree of trust between the two sides (Emoticon, 2014). Employees feel safe when they know that their seniors will consider their reservations even if they do not concur with them. The managers can use the employee reservations to help them move to the next level which will only strengthen the link between them hence an increased collaborative spirit and organizational performance. The Simulation theory posits that empathy is a reality since whenever we witness another individual going through a flurry of emotions we tend to simulate the same sort of emotions within ourselves to enable us to get firsthand what it is like (Bruna, 2015). Frankenstein obviously has many secrets and many troubled thoughts, Walton describes him as being impatient of the weight of woes that oppresses him. The idea of recreating life is horrific and the idea that that life is a new large species increases the sense of horror. Chapter five continues the horror of Victor Frankensteins actions. The descriptions of the creature contained in chapter five are dramatically different to the later descriptions found in chapter seventeen. In chapter five Victor describes the creature as horrific, he says breathless horror and disgust filled my heart and No mortal could support the horror of that countenance. Yet in chapter seventeen, although he still does not like the look of the creature, he is not so horrified by it. When he says A fiendish rage animated him it is not quite as emotive and loathing as some of his comments in chapter five. In chapter five Victor describes the creature as hostile, seemingly to detain me and I did not dare return are just some of the phrases he uses. In chapter seventeen however, Victor describes the creature as reasonable, I felt that there was some justice in his argument. Victor did not give him a chance at first but by chapter seventeen he realises that the monster is not that hostile after all and seems to believe that it is mainly his fault that the creature feels such hatred.

Both main characters in these novels have uneasy relationships with their family, which translate into uneasy relationships within their small community, and thus translate to uneasy relationships with their larger community. Carnivorous Plants Carnivorous plants are plants that capture, kill, and digest animal organisms. Like all plants, carnivorous plants are capable of photosynthesis. Since they usually live in areas where the soil quality is poor, they must supplement their diet with nutrients gained from digesting animals. Like other flowering plants, carnivorous plants use tricks to entice insects. These plants have developed specialized leaves that work to lure and then trap unsuspecting insects. Insects are lured to the plant by the bright colors and nectar. The inside walls of the leaves are covered with waxy scales that make them very slippery. It does mean that where the functionalities, the necessary technologies, and such product attributes as sturdiness and reliability are met, then other aspects of design, such as colors and aesthetics, can then impute more ineffable emotional characteristics. Looking at cell phones and computers, for instance, the very robustness of the technology and the excellence of certain products in terms of reliability and build quality are themselves wellsprings of positive emotions for the buyer. Grendel and the Importance of Human Values In Grendel, by John Gardner, there is considerable disquietude, but there are also moments of pleasure as well. The cause of these contrasting feelings is most often Grendel himself. As he changes from a purposeful and almost kind creature to a very cruel monster that scorns hope, we find ourselves feeling both pleased and upset at different times. In this element, though, lies a much greater purpose than simply good literature - it helps the reader understand the importance of human values. Pleasure in the book comes mainly in realizing how much Grendel acts like a human, and how much more rational he is than one would expect for a cruel monster. After seeing the deer in the beginning of the novel, Grendel points out why he kills cows instead of deer: they have more meat and are easier to catch. Although it's not necessarily a pleasant thought, it's somewhat comforting to know that Grendel appears to kill for the practical benefits (food) and not simply for the sake of killing. This is no worse than we might do. He seems especially human-like when he listens to the Shaper's song. Crying, he says that he was "filled with sorrow and tenderness" (44) and that he was "torn apart by poetry" (44). Another moment of pleasure comes as he is talking to the dragon and expresses a sort of hope and purpose. In defending his resolve not to scare humans so much just for fun, Grendel says, "Why shouldn't one change one's ways, improve one's character?" (72). In all the dragon's insist ence that everything is worth nothing, Grendel refuses to believe him. He even says, "Nevertheless, something will come of all this" (74). His hope makes the readers think all the better of him. Even if, at first, Grendel seems almost kind, and the reader is pleased with his character, he soon becomes more and more evil, and his actions bring about a feeling of uneasiness, to say the least. Before, the killing of people for no apparent reason disgusted Grendel. However, when he brings Unferth home, he kills the two guards "so I wouldn't be misunderstood" (90). Later, in probably the most disturbing scene of the book, we see how meaningless killing has become to Grendel. He brutally attacks the queen and is determined to kill her.

Hillary Clinton and Universal Health Care Hillary Clinton is perhaps most remembered during her tenure as the first lady of the United States in the mid-1990s for her unsuccessful push for universal health care, a controversial proposal seen at the time as a radical overhaul of the way Americans received coverage that drew strong opposition from both the drug and health insurance industries. The cornerstone of the plan was a mandate on employers to provide health insurance for all of their employees. Later in her political career, Clinton supported a mandate on Americans - not businesses - to purchase health insurance for themselves as part of a broad proposal to rein in costs and boost value and quality in the nations network of private health insurers. Clinton unveiled her newer proposals in her American Health Choices Plan during the race for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. Said Clinton in September 2007: My plan covers all Americans and improves health care by lowering costs and improving quality. If youre one of the tens of millions of Americans without coverage or if you dont like the coverage you have, you will have a choice of plans to pick from and youll get tax credits to help pay for it. If you like the plan you have, you can keep it. Its a plan that works for Americas families and Americas businesses, while preserving consumer choices. That same individual mandate became a part of President Barack Obamas health care law. Hillary Clinton and Universal Health Care Hillary Clinton was the first lady to President Bill Clinton in 1993 when he appointed her to chair the Presidents Task Force on National Health Care Reform. The president had warned in his inaugural address that the administration would face staunch opposition from powerful lobbies and special interests who would attempt to derail its efforts to provide coverage for all Americans, and he was right. Congressional Republicans opposed the plan, the public saw it as too complex and bureaucratic, but perhaps the kiss of death was the tremendous amount of criticism it received from health insurance industry, which went too far as to produce a multimillion-dollar television campaign against the proposal. The Clinton health care overhaul billed as the centerpiece of Bill Clintons presidency and a path to ensuring some 37 million Americans who had no coverage, died for lack of support in Congress in what was considered a major defeat for the administration and political setback for Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton Revises Health Care Proposals Clinton emerged with a new set of plans to ensure every American during the 2008 race for the Democratic presidential nomination. She said she had learned from her mistakes in 1993 and 1994 when the Clinton administrations proposals were too complicated, and that she had the scars to show for it. Clinton portrayed her new American Health Choices Plan as being one modeled after the health care program through which members of Congress are covered. The new array of choices offered in the menu will provide benefits at least as good as the typical plan offered to members of Congress, which includes mental health parity and usually dental coverage, Clinton said in 2007. Hillary Clintons plan would have required Americans to purchase health insurance and required insurers to cover everyone regardless of whether they had preconditions. It would have provided tax credits to Americans who couldnt afford to purchase health care and paid for them by rolling back the so-called Bush tax cuts on those earning more than $250,000 a year. Clinton said at the time her plan would have resulted in a net tax cut for American taxpayers.

In the scenario described above I had to consider proportionality with respect to long-term consequences of prioritizing one task over the other. By taking this approach I was able to manage my time and resources productively and ended up accomplishing both tasks. FULL STORY: I purchased a wireless mouse for my computer and after only a few days it stopped working altogether. Unfortunately, I had disposed of the original packaging and could not find my receipt evidencing its purchase. I telephoned the retail store and explained my dilemma, but was informed that without a receipt, I would not be able to return the product unless it was credit or debit card purchase. Since the transaction had been made by cash, I had no chance of returning the defective mouse. Even so, I went to the store myself and asked for an audience with the store’s manager. Once
